The big "bread failure" ...by Laura Grace
Well I tried to make this bread. See I have tasted Amish friendship bread and I was really super excited to make it myself! so I made this starter, I was so careful to go out and get the stuff, follow the directions and do exactly what it said! for 10 days I did what it said, 6th day added things, 10th day it said divide things in cups and use the remainder to "make your bread!" Well I did that, looked up how long to bake it and what temp and I was all pleased it was like it said it should be! I poured the remaining batter into my pan, baked it and it rose and looked and smelled delicious! alas, I went to eat it and it was all raw inside! OH I was so upset! I prayed over it, tended to it, was diligent about it (DAILY) and it reminds me of my Christian walk sometimes, I Prayed Lord, I read the directions, I did what you said and here I am "with a bad outcome!!"
WHAT went wrong? OH this bread reminds me of some times I would rather forget!!
Well I threw it in the yard and thought about the other things I could have been doing as I washed the sticky gooey pan the dough had been in for days on end!! (I practically needed a knife to clean it!!) so AFTER I got over being upset I decided to go look and see what might have gone wrong, even though I was so sure I did everything it said! to my surprise I learned that this starter recipe was different from the actual "Friendship bread recipe". Now the instructions say "use the rest of the batter to make your bread"and in my brain that meant "cook the rest' make bread out of it!
to someone who KNEW or had been around Amish Bread makers well they might have known (but I did not know!!). Like I said I prayed over this, did what it said in black and white and MUCH LIKE My Christian experience things did not turn out as expected!
AND I was very disappointed too! The bread was awful! until I settled down I could not even imagine what had gone wrong! "You're just bad at bread making" the evil thoughts came at me "face it you are no Martha Stewart!!" This is a favorite old tape the devil likes to play in my head!!
So in Growing- see it's quite the same, we need to understand ALL the directions and the "starter" and the instructions the Lord is giving us on how to make bread! (so to speak) or how to grow or how to (everything else we want to know of Him!!). then there is the oven and the temp and does the oven work properly? I believe in Prayer I prayed over this bread (but it still did not turn out right)
I also studied about it (but it still did not turn out right!!) ....and this is just "BREAD" how much more is there to learn about "our Salvation" and how much more important is it as well? so never give up Keep on seeking (keep on finding) and if you want something in God bad enough trust me YOU WILL GET IT! Well Father help us to learn and grow and become all we wish to be and hope for in you! IN Jesus' name amen !! and no it's not just automatic! If that were so there would not be so many babies running around!!
